Furnisher
Furnisher — A furnisher is an entity that provides information relating to consumers to one or more consumer reporting agencies for inclusion in a consumer report.
Regulation V defines the term at 12 C.F.R. § 1022.41(c) and pairs it with definitions of "accuracy" and "integrity" that set the substantive standard for what is furnished. FCRA § 1681s-2(a) bars furnishing information the furnisher knows or has reasonable cause to believe is inaccurate, requires prompt correction of incomplete or inaccurate information, and prohibits continuing to furnish disputed information without noting the dispute; § 1681s-2(b) imposes the duty to investigate on notice of a dispute from a CRA and to report results within the § 1681i(a)(1) period. Separately, Regulation F § 1006.30(a) bars a debt collector from furnishing to a CRA before speaking with the consumer or sending a letter and waiting a reasonable period for an undeliverable notice — the anti-"debt parking" rule.
