ACDV

ACDV — An ACDV, or Automated Consumer Dispute Verification, is the electronic form a consumer reporting agency transmits to a furnisher to relay a consumer's dispute and collect the furnisher's investigation response.

Per the CFPB's December 2012 credit reporting white paper, when an NCRA cannot resolve a dispute internally it "will forward the dispute through e-OSCAR to the appropriate furnisher with dispute codes through an electronic form called automated consumer dispute verification (ACDV)," which can carry up to 255 characters of consumer-supplied free-form text. The furnisher may respond in one of four ways: verify the account as accurate, modify the trade line as indicated, delete the account, or delete the account due to fraud. The recurring supervisory criticism is that a code-and-text ACDV strips the consumer's supporting documentation, so a furnisher that reconciles only against its own screen has arguably not conducted the reasonable investigation FCRA § 1681s-2(b) requires.
